The Expression of Christian Youth Spirituality in Indonesia
Based on the findings of the survey "Spiritual Expression of Christian Youth in Indonesia" by the Bilangan Research Center (BRC) in 2024, there is a strong relationship between COMMUNITY which is very useful for the growth of faith with the existence and role of a MENTOR. Building a mentor community for Gen Z in churches and schools is the first step to building an ecosystem for the development of the community in the church, and the effectiveness of the community in schools.

In April–June 2024, BRC conducted an online survey among Christian youth in Indonesia, aged 12–26 years. There were 3,387 respondents. However, after control measures, only 1,400 respondents had their data processed further, with a margin of error of 2.7%.

Currently, very few Gen Z individuals have a community in church. Most teenage respondents of the BRC survey have close friends or communities within their school environment.

A total of 30.9% of respondents do not have a community that effectively supports their spiritual growth — either because they do not have one, have lost connection with one, or because their existing community does not provide meaningful impact. Meanwhile, 44.2% of respondents reported that their community plays a highly beneficial role in supporting their spiritual growth.

Among Gen Z respondents, 59.6% have a mentor, while 40.4% do not have one.

The results of this research show that the presence and guidance of a mentor has a significant positive impact on a person's habits and spiritual growth as well as life priorities.

These findings show that having a community that supports spiritual growth has a positive influence on faith-related habits and values.
This highlights the significant role of strong communities in fostering consistent spiritual practices.
MMI Envisions Raising 10,000 Mentors for the Next Generation of Indonesia
Research shows that both COMMUNITY and the presence of MENTORS play a significant role in the spiritual growth of teenagers. Yet, many young people in Indonesia still do not have access to a supportive COMMUNITY or a MENTOR. We believe that great transformation begins with a simple step — building healthy and strong mentoring communities. Start from where you are.
